Liverpool agree €140 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola

Bradley Barcola has today seemingly agreed to sign for Liverpool football club, as per multiple reports. He becomes the second most expensive Liverpool signing of all time, after Swedish striker Alexander Isak, acquired last summer. Barcola's signing means that current Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo looks set to leave the club. PSG have already acquired Mike Godts, Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche in attacking zones, and therefore seem content with their summer business so far.

Barcola has been a key part of Luis Enrique's team over the last two seasons in which they have reached unprecedented heights, winning two successive Champions League titles. However, since the signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January 2025, Barcola has found himself increasingly on
the bench, with the Georgian international usually occupying the left wing starting berth, particularly in big Champions League games.

Barcola has nevertheless been extremely productive for PSG, managing 39 goals and 35 assists in 151 total appearances for PSG, after signing from Lyon in the summer of 2023. He has been PSG's top scorer in Ligue 1 on one occasion, during last season.

His lack of minutes across pre-season, as well as PSG's extensive attacking recruitment, led many to speculate that his exit was imminent, and indeed Liverpool were the side most closely linked to him, as the English club have been seeking to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah's departure earlier this year.

Despite his recent lack of starts and the hefty transfer fee, this will still be a painful exit for PSG fans: Barcola's electric pace and chance creation had made him a fan favourite in Paris, and he was part of an attack that was the best in Europe, and went on to win two Champions League.

European titles, as well as three Ligue 1 titles (one in each year of his tenure in Paris), two UEFA Super Cups, one FIFA intercontinental Cup, two Coupe de France titles and three Trophée des Champions Trophies.

He joins a Liverpool side who drew their first game of the premier league away at Newcastle, newly under the tenureship of Andoni Iraola, previously head coach at Bournemouth.

Barcola, during his time at PSG, also became a regular France international, scoring three goals at this summer's World Cup, including one against England in the third place play off match. He wasn't always a regular starter during the World Cup however, often being rotated with club teammate Desiré Doué.

He also holds the record of most appearances made in a single season for PSG, making 61 appearances to break Valère Germain's record in 2024-25, his best season for PSG in which he scored 21 goals in all competitions, including three in the Champions League, as PSG won their first ever UCL title.
