Leverkusen 2-7 PSG: Paris thrash Leverkusen as Dembélé makes return to competition

PSG hammered Bayer Leverkusen 7-2 after another Champions League masterclass in Germany, opening their European campaign with three wins.

Paris Saint-Germain will face German giants Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 3 of the Champions League group stage at the BayArena. After two consecutive draws in Ligue 1 against Lille and Strasbourg, Luis Enrique and his side will look to go back to winning ways against the German side.

Ahead of the game, Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembélé were announced in the squad for this game, but won't start as they could earn some minutes off the bench later on. Additionally, Senny Mayulu has been chosen to start at the top of PSG's frontline, as he did in their previous two games in the competition. Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will complete the frontline while Désiré Doué and Warren Zaire-Emery will compose the midfield trio with Vitinha.

PSG hammered Leverkusen as Dembélé returns

After just seven minutes, Paris Saint-Germain took the lead through Willian Pacho. The Ecuador international scored his first goal for the club after a great delivery from Nuno Mendes. The visitors were in complete control of the game after 20 minutes putting Leverkusen on the back foot for most of the period. However, the hosts became increasingly more dangerous, mounting the pressure on PSG to draw level. Shortly, they were awarded a penalty after a handball from Zabarnyi in his box, but Grimaldo failed to score as his strike hit the woodwork, leaving Paris in the lead.

At 33 minutes, the game saw another twist as Leverkusen's captain, Andrich was shown a straight red card after an elbow to the face of Désiré Doué, but moments later, Zabarnyi was sent off after giving away a second penalty with both sides now down to 10 men. Aleix Garcia then converted the penalty to make it 1-1 in an unbelievable turn of events (38').

Just before halftime, Désiré Doué put PSG back in the lead with a cool finish inside the box (42'). The Frenchman scored his first goal making his return from injury in an eventful first half. Less than two minutes later, Kvaratskhelia made it 3-1 with a brilliant finish (44'). In the dying minutes of the first half, Désiré Doué made it 4-1 as he scored his second goal of the night as PSG scored three goals in seven minutes to seemingly put the game to bed (45+3').

Four minutes into the second half, Nuno Mendes put the result of the game beyond doubt with his first goal of the campaign. Leverkusen's Aleix Garcia scored a stunning goal, a wonderful strike from distance that left no chance to Lucas Chevalier as the hosts reduced their deficit (54').

Minutes after coming onto the pitch, Ousmane Dembélé made an impact with his first goal of the Champions League season after an unselfish pass from Bradley Barcola (66'). In the dying embers of the game, Vitinha capped off PSG's amazing performance with a superb strike from outisde the box (90').
