How did PSG players fared in France's 6-4 third-place loss to England?

France fell to England 6-4, a 10-goal thriller that became instantly a World Cup classic. That game saw former PSG superstar Kylian Mbappé break the all-time record for goal scored in the history of the World Cup with his 10th goal of the competition. Moreover, Michael Olise delivered his seventh assists of the tournament and broke Pelé's record from 1958.

The campaign was overall disappointing for France who dreamed of lifting their third World Cup trophy, but the team saw amazing individual and collective performances as Kylian Mbappé, Michael Olise, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembélé dazzled offensively.

Five PSG players were included in this star-studded squad by Didier Deschamps and four of them took part in their last game of the tournament. It is therefore the perfect time to look at how they fared in their third-place playoff clash against England.

6 - Warren Zaire-Emery:

The PSG Academy graduate failed to have regular minutes in his first World Cup, making his first appearance in the quarter-final against Achraf Hakimi's Morocco. But this third-place game was his chance to show his talent on the biggest stage and for a large part of the game he squandered it. France's first half was simply horrendous and while he was one of the few to remain at a decent level it was not enough to save his performance.

However, with the numerous changes after the break, he was much better and participated in their comeback attempt.

3 - Désiré Doué:

He was chosen to start over Bradley Barcola for this game and delivered a dramatic performance. He made little to no differences against his right-back and made several bad choices on both sides of the ball. It was by far his worse performance with France and possibly the worse of his whole season.

6.5 - Ousmane Dembélé:

The 2025 Ballon d'Or came on at halftime as Didier Deschamps tried to revamp his offense and he was fairly good. He made numerous good choice which ultimately led to his goal, his sixth of the campaign. However, he was also wasteful in front of goal, just like Michael Olise, which certainly cost the game to his team as they came close to pull an insane comeback victory.

7- Bradley Barcola:

He was great when he came on at halftime as he scored the second goal of his team to reignite their hope to comeback. He had a really good World Cup which contributed to increase the interests of several teams such as Arsenal and Liverpool who are looking to sign him this summer.

N/A - Lucas Hernandez:

The 2018 World Cup winner did not feature in this game, he ended the tournament without a single appearance. Alongside N'Golo Kanté they are the only two outfield players that did not feature for France as Didier Deschamps ended his 14-year tenure at the head of the national team.
