PSG is preparing to face another Spanish team in the UEFA Champions League phase when they travel to San Mamés to play Athletic Bilbao. The game will be tricky for Les Parisiens as Bilbao can be a tough side to play against on their day.
They proved this on the weekend when they beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 at home, courtesy of a strike from Alejandro Berenguer Remiro with 5 minutes left of regulation time. This was a huge blow for Diego Simeone's men as they are now nine points behind league leaders Barcelona. Blaugrauna dispatched Bilbao 4-0 at home a few weeks ago in their first game back at Camp Nou after 900 days. The win over Atlético puts the host seventh in the table, a point behind 6th placed Real Betis and four behind fifth-placed Espanyol. It will give Ernesto Valverde's side renewed hope that they could end up in a Champions League position, as they experienced a top-four race last season.
PSG showed why they have been the dominant force in French football over this past decade when they dismantled Rennes 5-0 at Parc des Princes. Les Parisiens needed to get back to winning ways after losing 1-0 to Paul Pogba's Monaco in the previous game, which meant that Lens leapfrogged them at the top of the table.
