Paris is set to take on Habib Beye's Rennes at the Parc des Princes on Matchday 15 of Ligue 1 McDonald's. Luis Enrique and his side will look to bounce back following their disappointing 1-0 loss against Monaco. This loss cost them the top spot of the league with RC Lens claiming it following their impressive run of form.
For this game, the European Champions will have to do without several key players, including Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Désiré Doué and Lucas Chevalier. With the Frenchman injured, Matvey Safonov will be able to make his first appearance of the season, while Warren Zaire-Emery and Lucas Hernandez operate at the full-back position. Additionally, Ousmane Dembélé will start on the bench with Senny Mayulu once again set to play as a false nine.
Paris Saint-Germain's starting XI: Safonov; Pacho, Marquinhos, Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaire-Emery; Vitinha, Joao Neves, Senny Mayulu; Kvaratskhelia, Barcola, Kang-In Lee.
Rennes' starting XI: Samba; Brassier, Jacquet, Ait Boudlal; Al-Taamari, Cissé, Rongier, Camara, Frankowski; Lepaul, Embolo.
PSG dominate Rennes at the Parc des Princes
After 15 minutes, no clear cut chances for both sides. While the hosts had most of the ball, they faced a very well-organised Rennes side who managed to remain a threat through fastbreaks and periods of ball possession. Nonetheless, the European Champions slowly found their rhythm in this game and created increasingly more opportunities to open the score.
Though, the visitors had a massive chance to score through Lepaul but he was denied by an unbelievable save from Safonov who deflected the effort on his right post. This save was proved to be crucial as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the score shortly after following a great move (28').
10 minutes later, Senny Mayulu doubled PSG's lead after a remarkable collective move started on the right wing and was set up by Vitinha for a close range finish (39'). The last 20 minutes of the first half were completely dominated by the hosts.
Kvaratskhelia made it 3-0 for PSG, thanks to a huge mistake from Brice Samba as he gave the ball away in his own box, leading to the Georgian's second goal of the night (67'). In the dying embers of the game, substitute Ibrahim Mbaye scored what was the goal of the night to make it 4-0 with Paris cruising to victory (88'). Shortly, Gonçalo Ramos scored the fifth goal of the night for the European Champions (90+1).
Up next, Les Parisiens will travel to San Mamés to face Athlétic Bilbao on Matchday 6 of the Champions League on Wednesday evening as they look to secure their spot in the top 8 of the League Phase.
