After PSG’s recent elimination in Lausanne against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League, let’s take a look at three of the players from that PSG squad who look the most promising going forwards.
PSG’s academy has, in recent years, produced a number of top players; with stars such as Presnel Kimpembe, Adrien Rabiot, Kingsley Coman and Warren Zaire-Emery coming through the ranks in Paris, let’s now take a took at the latest generation of young Parisians currently playing in the Under 19s and see which of them PSG supporters should be keeping a close eye on over the next few years.
Here are three players from the PSG Youth League team that could make it to the first team in the future.
Three PSG U19 players that could reach the first team
1) Elijah Ly
Ly, 17, a left winger with Senegalese origins who has been part of the youth setup at PSG since 2021, has had an impressive season so far for the PSG youth team: despite struggling at times with injury, he has managed five goals and two assists in 15 appearances so far this season – including a well taken finish last Friday against Real Madrid. Ly is playing in a position in which there is a lot of competition at the moment at PSG, both in senior team and in the youth team, but if he keeps up his form and manages to refine his slightly erratic finishing, he could push for inclusion in the first team squad in the not too distant future.
2) Mathis Jangéal
Perhaps the most obvious choice from this group of players to make it to the first team, Jangéal, another 17-year-old, has taken to under-19 football like a duck to water. Jangéal has already made two appearances for the senior team under Luis Enrique, and is a versatile player, capable of playing in central or attacking midfield – even occasionally at striker. Across all youth competitions this season Jangéal has made 23 appearances, scoring 14 goals and notching seven assists too. A really impressive strike rate from the young midfielder, whose future at PSG looks extremely promising, as he is obviously already on Enrique’s radar.
3) Pierre Mounguengue
PSG under-19’s striker, Mounguengue coolly slotted home a pressure penalty in last Friday’s Youth League shootout defeat – indeed, the 18-year-old’s stats this season leave little doubt that the young Frenchman has got an eye for goal. Across 29 appearances in the UEFA Youth League, Coupe Gambardella and Under-19 French league, Mounguengue has notched an impressive 19 goals this season, also providing 12 assists to his teammates. PSG’s senior team doesn’t have a recognised striker apart from Gonçalo Ramos at the moment (and the Portuguese marksman’s departure this summer has been touted already as a possibility) so the excellent performances of Mounguengue in the Under-19s will be an all around positive for supporters of the club.
