3 main talking points as Paris Saint-Germain secure first Ligue 1 win over Brest

The Parisians secured their first win of the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Stade Brestois as the club paid tribute to their late coach Eric Roy. After two draws and one loss, Luis Enrique and his side finally started their season following their dominant display against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League midweek.

1- Paris secured their first victory in Ligue 1

After an abysmal start in Ligue 1 with two draws and a disappointing loss to AS Monaco, the Parisians finally secured their first win of the league campaign against Brest, narrow and hard-fought win. Luis Enrique and his team had to dig deep to secure this victory with the hosts missing a few big chances while Safonov also delivered crucial saves in the dying embers of the game.

The European Champions still have a lot of work to do to reach their best level, which will be necessary to realise their objectives.

2- Ferran Torres led the way once again

The Parisians saw once again Ferran Torres, their new signing and 2026 World Cup winner lead the way in their first league win. The Spaniard low range effort helped his side secure a narrow win against Brest.

He already scored six goals in his first five games for his new club, an exploit only Zlatan Ibrahimovic managed to achieve. Furthermore, his partnership with Ousmane Dembélé seems already fruitful for the team as the 2025 Ballon d'Or delivered his third assists in two games to Torres. Their movements appear to be synchronised already as both often switch positions easily throughout games.

It will now be interesting to see how far this duo can take the club this season in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League.

3- Matvey Safonov finally showed up

The game against Brest was not only their first victory in Ligue 1 this season but also their first clean sheet of the whole campaign. Up to this point, the European Champions have conceded at least one goal in every game and saw Matvey Safonov concede two goals in each of his first three Ligue 1 games. The Parisians and Safonov conceded six goals in only nine shots on target, a hard pill to swallow for fans who have seen their team's many defensive weaknesses.

However, the Russian goalkeeper finally had his best game this season against Brest as he delivered two superb saves in the last 20 minutes to preserve Paris' lead and the important clean sheet.
