The Club World Cup has been a topic of discussion recently. It has sparked outrage as it is an expanded version of the previous edition of the tournament, and it takes place at the end of a gruelling season.

Some pundits have come out publicly and condemned the tournament as they believe in player welfare. Despite this, the non-European teams have taken the tournament seriously as they don't play European teams often. The Botafogo vs PSG game is a perfect example, as the PSG players didn't play to the best of their ability.

Here at PSG Post, we discuss why the tournament is not good for the PSG players, never mind the players of other European clubs involved.

The Club World Cup limits the amount of rest players can get

Several top European clubs are involved in the tournament, such as Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Man City, and Bayern Munich. This means that the players from those clubs will not get a proper rest between this season and the end of the next campaign, as the World Cup takes place next year.

To make matters worse, they will play more games than usual in the new Champions League format. This is detrimental as the players from those clubs will be more prone to injury. Any injury towards the end of next season could be devastating for a player, as they will be at risk of missing the World Cup.

We already have the Champions League

We already have a prestigious tournament that features the world's best teams, known as the Champions League. This adds to the idea that the tournament does not make any sense, as why would you need the Club World Cup to determine what team is the best in the world?

If a European team does not win the tournament, it will be because they did not take the tournament seriously enough. There will be more onus on the non-European teams as they don't face the European teams very often.

The stadiums are half full at the Club World Cup

Stadiums have been 56.8 percent full during the opening round of the Club World Cup. This shows that the fans are not concerned about this tournament. It is easy to understand why, as the tournament comes at the worst possible time. The European clubs just finished their season, and some of their players have just come back from the international break with their country. This means there hasn't been a break between the end of the Champions League final and the upcoming season.
