Les Parisiens have the biggest game of the season thus far when they travel to Bavaria to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. Both sides had games on the weekend. The French champions had drawn 2-2 with Lorient, the ninth-placed team, while Bayern Munich dropped points at home to the relegation-threatened Heidenheim 3-3.
Neither side went full strength for their league game on the weekend for similar reasons. Bayern Munich had won the league weeks ago, while Les Parisiens are on the verge of winning the league. Here at PSG Post, we discuss why the French champions can't take anything for granted despite winning the first leg at the Parc des Princes.
Why Paris is up for a massive fight against Bayern Munich in the second-leg?
Bayern Munich have the attack to score goals against PSG
The German giants arguably have the best attack in the world. Their forward line consists of Michael Olise, Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Luis Diaz. Kane, Olise, and Diaz have combined for over 100 goals this season, which is more than any other in Europe. Vincent Kompany's side tends to make games open, so the 5-4 result last week is not a complete surprise. It would be asking a lot of Marquinhos and Willian Pacho to contain Harry Kane. The English captain is awkward to deal with as he likes dropping deep to receive the ball. Pacho or Marquinhos would have to follow him around the pitch as he has a brilliant range of passing.
Luis Enrique will be without Achraf Hakimi
The European champions will not be able to call upon the services of Achraf Hakimi for the second leg in Munich, as he suffered a right thigh injury in the first leg against Bayern Munich. As a result, Enrique will have to deploy Warren Zaire-Emery in the right back position. This is far from ideal, as his best position is in midfield, and he would come up against Luis Diaz if he plays fullback. Diaz gave Hakimi a tough time, so it is difficult to imagine it being any different against Zaire-Emery.
Real Madrid is the only team that has defended the Champions League in the modern era
Ever since the European Cup rebranded as the Champions League in the 1992/3 season, only Real Madrid has managed to win the tournament as defending champions. If Luis Enrique's side manages to go through, they will be strong favourites against either Atletico Madrid or Arsenal. The European champions can't look ahead to the final as they still need to get the job done in the second leg.
