Why Paris Saint-Germain didn't need to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille?

Man City reached an agreement with Lille to sign former PSG target Ayyoub Bouaddi. The deal is thought to be around £86 million for the teen midfielder, which is a testament to his unlimited potential. Les Parisiens were interested in the Moroccan international in July but cooled down their interest to focus on other positions which were more of a priority, such as wingers/strikers.

Bouaddi is a player that the club knows well as they play against Lille every season. They know his strengths and weaknesses and whether pursuing him is worth it. Why PSG did not need to go for Ayyoub Bouaddi?

There are doubts as to whether he would have started

Midfield is PSG's strongest position. The European champions can field a midfield three consisting of Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves and Vitinha. This leaves the likes of Senny Mayulu and Warren Zaire-Emery on the bench. In fact, it can be so difficult for Zaire-Emery to get a position in midfield that he sometimes has to fill in at right back when Achraf Hakimi is injured or rested for cup games.

It would be difficult to imagine Bouaddi starting for a club that has Zaire-Emery and Mayulu on the bench. Contrast this with Manchester City, where he will be a regular starter, as they have sold several midfielders such as Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders.

The club needed to prioritise other positions

The European champions need to focus on buying attackers, as this transfer window they have sold Gonçalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani, and Kang-in Lee. They are also trying to sell Bradley Barcola to Liverpool, which is a difficult deal to complete as the Reds are not willing to pay Les Parisians' £145 million asking fee. You could argue that the club has bolstered their attack with the signings of Maghnes Akliouche, Ferran Torres and Mika Godts. The only issue is that several attackers won't get game time as the squad is bloated in that position.

It would be difficult to do a deal with Lille

If PSG tried to get the player from Lille, then Les Dogues would try to overcharge for him. They would be reluctant to strengthen a team competing in the same league as them, seeing as they are a competitive side, as last season proved. This would make a deal for the teenager difficult to complete. Les Parisiens have also indicated that it wouldn't be worth it, as they extended the contracts of the current midfielders in the squad, such as Senny Mayulu.
