The French champions are gearing up for the season's most sought-after Ligue 1 clash when they travel to south-east France to face Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome on Sunday. This is the biggest clash of the domestic season, as these two are the country's biggest clubs.

One could argue that Marseille's dislike for Les Parisiens has intensified over the last two years as they retained the Champions League in the 2025/26 campaign. Marseille will want to get closer to PSG in the league as they have not finished within 10 points of PSG since the Qatari takeover in 2011. To make matters worse for Marseille, in the last 25 games between the two, Les Parisiens have won 20, there have been three draws, and Marseille has won twice. The French champions have got off to a slow start

Luis Enrique's side won just one domestic game this season. The sole victory came away to Brest courtesy of a Ferran Torres strike in the opening minutes. While it is not a serious cause for concern, as the club did not have a proper preseason, Luis Enrique's side should not play like this for the whole season, as they will get punished when they play in the Champions League against tougher opposition.

They can heap more misery on Marseille

Les Phoceens need to improve this season and fast. Thus far, they have lost three of their four league games. They won their first game of the season 4-0 against Strasbourg at the Stade Velodrome before losing to Monaco (2-0) away, Paris FC (2-3) at home, and Rennes (1-0) away. If they don't improve, then they will make it extremely hard to secure European football next season. Despite the slow start to the season, Bruno Genesio's side can't be too hard on themselves, as they have more than enough time to turn their season around.

They will have bragging rights over their fierce rivals

PSG will have bragging rights over Marseille if they come away with a victory on Sunday night, and vice versa if Marseille get the three points in front of their home fans. Fans of both sides don't like each other, which will give both sides an added incentive to win on Sunday evening. If the European champions don't come away with a victory, then Marseille fans will let Les Parisiens know about it on social media.
