Since joining the club in January 2024 from FC São Paulo, the Brazilian has failed to become a key element of the team. While his performances also failed to impress fans and observers alike, he saw Willian Pacho sign for the club and become a pilar of the team at his position as he played a major role in their treble-winning season.
Despite his reduced role and many rumours surrounding his future in the French capital with clubs such as FC Nantes, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce all showing interest for the 22-year-old centre-back. However, according to L'Equipe and several others sources, the Brazilian international is set to extend his contract with PSG in the next few days.
This decision would make little to no sense for a player that is primarily a backup and fringe player of the squad that played only 13 games this season for a total of 1,007 minutes.
Why keeping Lucas Beraldo makes no sense for PSG?
Lucas Beraldo's talent is undeniable, he is a very intelligent player able to read ball trajectory, additionally, he is elegant and will undoubtedly become a great player in the future. However, with Willian Pacho and the recent arrival of Illia Zabarnyi, his prospect of minutes at the club have drastically dropped. His mere 13 games played this season are the ultimate proof of his decreased importance in the squad. Because of his situation, his chances of featuring at the next World Cup have plummeted.
Therefore, the option to extend his contract coming from the club makes almost no sense to many fans. Many teams have shown a strong interest in signing him in recent months, and the club should take the decision to let him go. His current value his around €25-30 millions which would be great for the club in the summer.
Despite his talent and potential, the club and Luis Enrique should look to offload him as soon as possible and sign another centre-back that will be able to be a solid option for Luis Enrique and the club in the future whereas Lucas Beraldo has lost the trust of his coach. He is one of the only field players that has not been used by his coach in the Champions League this season.
The 22-year-old centre-back should be sold to the highest bidder this summer and a replacement should be found for him wheter it is on the transfer market or from the academy.
