Goncalo Ramos is a topic of discussion recently. The Portuguese international has been linked with a move away from the French champions ahead of the start of the season. Some of the clubs he has been linked to include Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Liverpool. Those three clubs have different reasons for being linked to him.
Liverpool is looking for a plan B for Alexsander Isak, while Newcastle needs a replacement if Isak leaves the club. Manchester United needs backup plans for both Benjamin Sesko and Oliie Watkins (if he decides to go to Newcastle or stay at Aston Villa). Here at PSG Post, we discuss why he should leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
Should PSG let Gonçalo Ramos go this summer?
He needs game time ahead of the World Cup
Ramos will have an eye on the World Cup in America next summer. He will be eager to help Cristiano Ronaldo win a World Cup with Portugal, as this will be his last World Cup. Last season, Ramos played 22 league games for the European champions. This is far from ideal, as the other attackers who are competing for a place in the World Cup are regular starters. Players such as Trincao, Rafael Leao, and Cristiano Ronaldo are likely to be named in the squad if they maintain last season's form. Ronaldo will probably captain his country in the tournament because of the wealth of experience he has with his national team.
PSG needs a better backup option
Les Parisiens need a striker as Ousmane Dembele is not a natural number nine. It could make them more unpredictable next season as they will play a different brand of football. Alexsander Isak wants to leave Newcastle, and Liverpool is reluctant to meet their asking price. He is available on the market if Luis Enrique decides he wants a striker. An arrival of a number 9 would pose two questions: can Ousmane Dembele replicate his form on the wing, and how much game time will Desire Doue get? Goncalo Ramos is a good player, but if he played regularly, he would not have replicated what Dembele did last season.
He could thrive elsewhere
Several teams in England have been inquiring about the services of the Portuguese international. Newcastle, Manchester United, and Aston Villa are interested in signing the 24-year-old. He would be more likely to start at those clubs, which would boost his chances of featuring at the World Cup with Portugal. Ramos has shown in the limited game time he had last season for PSG that he could surprise people. He scored 10 league goals despite featuring in just over half the league games (22).
