2025 is about to end and with it undoubtedly the greatest year in the history of PSG, which has seen the team led by Luis Enrique lift six trophies, including the coveted Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. It was a year of first for the club as many of their players also won numerous individual awards with Ousmane Dembélé winning the Ballon d'Or while Achraf Hakimi was named African Ballon d'Or and Désiré Doué FIFA Young player of the year.
In his second season at the club, Luis Enrique has achieved things never done before in French football, cementing the club as the biggest in the country. The victory in the Champions League after years of heartbreak confirmed the status of the club as one of best club in Europe.
Why the best is yet to come for PSG after 2025?
After an historical season, the club will now have to cement their status as a dominant force in Europe. To do so, they will need to lift the Champions League again and join clubs such as Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich or Liverpool. Managing to win it in successive fashion, a feat only realised by Real Madrid in the 21st century would make of Luis Enrique and the club the best in the world while helping players such as Vitinha or Achraf Hakimi to win individual trophies such as the Ballon d'Or.
But what would help the club to reach new heights when they have already achieve so much? The answer is simple, keep winning and most importantly have a sustainable model.
To be sustainable, the club will need to be led perfectly by its leaders, Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Campos, who have done an amazing job to get the club to the point where it is today.
As stated by PSG's Sporting director at the 50-year anniversary of the club's academy, the club would in the end aim to have a side filled with players from the PSG Academy. And the beginning of the 2025-2026 season has showcased how wonderful it could be when fans witnessed Ibrahim Mbaye, Senny Mayulu, Warren Zaire-Emery and Quentin Ndjantou all shining in the 2-1 victory over FC Barcelona in the Champions League.
The future of the club lies within their academy and the club has already started to work intelligently towards this as the feeling after winning the Champions League with a team filled with homegrown talents would be unbeatable for the fans.
