During the winter transfer window, Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi secured the signature of Dro Fernandez from the FC Barcelona. The 18-year-old is one of the most promising prospect in world football and was highly rated in Spain as he was set to become a key player for the Blaugrana in the years to come.
However, he made a very surprising choice to leave and signed for PSG, adding another big prospect to Luis Enrique's squad. The Spanish player who was presented to the public ahead of Le Classique also made his debut for PSG in the dominant 5-0 display delivered by his team.
While he only played 15 minutes in front of his new fans, it was enough for him to showcase some of his technical abilities, vision and intelligence. However, despite the numerous injuries sustained by the club this season in midfield, will he be able to secure many minutes for PSG under Luis Enrique in a team that counts many players able to play at a high level. Players such as Kang-In Lee, Désiré Doué, Senny Mayulu, Warren Zaire-Emery and the injured Quentin Ndjantou are all able to feature in midfield which could make it hard for Dro to play much in the second part of the current season.
Therefore, could Dro be an excellent addition for PSG this season and could he be a flop?
Will Dro Fernandez shine with PSG?
The former FC Barcelona wonderkids is an incredible talent, this is an undeniable fact. However, talent is rarely enough to succeed at the highest level, players need a bit of luck but mostly hardwork. Dro seems to have all of that but will likely need to be patient before getting a real opportunity to have an impact at PSG under Luis Enrique.
Many players in the rotation are currently above him and while the club has proven recently that they know how to help grow talented players and help them reach their potential, it might take longer for him to properly break through the first team.
Overall, Luis Enrique is certainly the best coach to mentor Dro has he has shown patience and trust towards many of young players throughout his career. This trend has become even more obvious since joining the French capital as the Spaniard gave their chances to many PSG Academy graduate such as Senny Mayulu, Quentin Ndjantou, Ibrahim Mbaye and others.
With Dro Fernandez being as talented as he is, there is no doubt that he will thrive at the club.
