Should PSG sign Rayan Cherki this summer?

Rayan Cherki came close to sign for Paris Saint-Germain last summer, however, the move fell through and the club moved on signed Désiré Doué from Stade Rennais instead.

Now the the 21-year-old who finished the season as the top assists provider in Ligue 1 and Europa League while receiving the trophy for the best dribbler of the league, in a 2024/2025 campaign where he was able to showcase most of his incredible abilities, which attracted some of Europe's biggest clubs when the player officialised his upcoming departure from Lyon after the final Ligue 1 game of the season.

Now the question would be whether or not it would be a good fit for the player and the club. Luis Enrique likes talented players able to play in several position, and in this regard, the player fits the description as he is able to play on both wings, as a offensive midfielders and a false number nine.

Additionally, with Kang-In Lee set to leave, he would be a perfect alternative while being able to play in every offensive position of Luis Enrique's system. However, there is many reasons why the club shouldn't pursue the 21-year-old this summer.

Paris shouldn't sign Cherki

One of the first reasons why Paris shouldn't pursue Cherki is that all the offensive positions are filled by young and telented players, which wouldn't leave much space for the 21-year-old, dramatically limiting his game time.

Furthermore, he would be unable to play in PSG's midfield where Désiré Doué who is a similar player can, after the arrival of Ligue 1's Young Player of the Season the team do not need to recruit a player in those position. If Paris were to sign the Under-21 France international, it would mean that one of their wingers left.

The team should instead focus to sign a good right-back that would be a good alternative to Achraf Hakimi as the Morocco international is the only player in this position within the squad.
