PSG are coming off the back of a historic season. They joined the handful of elite clubs that have won the treble and went far in the Club World Cup. While they couldn't get over the line in the Club World Cup final against Chelsea, there is still reason to be optimistic ahead of the new season.

The main reason is that they can use the final as a wake-up call. Before the game, they were complacent and thought they had already won before a ball was kicked. The French champions now know that they need to strengthen their squad before next season. One position they are looking at improving is centreback.

They are currently pursuing Bournemouth center-back Illia Zabaryni. Les Parisiens already have a 5-year deal in place with the defender, but Nasser Al Khelaifi wants to finalise the deal quickly as other clubs have also been linked to him. Here at PSG Post, we discuss whether the French champions should sign him for £70 million.

Marquinhos will need replacing

Marquinhos had a brilliant season last season. He was at the heart of a defence that conceded the least amount of goals in the French league. The Brazilian international also formed a brilliant partnership with Willian Pacho, who performed well last campaign.

Nobody in the squad deserves PSG's Champions League triumph more than him, as he has been at the club for over 10 years through the good and the bad times. Luis Enrique will need to look at phasing the Brazilian international out as he is going to be 31 years old next year. The potential signing of Zabaryni is logical in this instance, as he is 22 years old and will turn 23 in September.

Lucas Beraldo wants to leave

Despite featuring in 25 Ligue 1 games, Lucas Beraldo wants to leave the European champions. The 21-year-old wants even more game time ahead of the World Cup next summer as he did not feature anywhere near as much in the Champions League. PSG has accepted his decision, but on two conditions: a fair fee (nothing less than 30 million euros) and Illia Zabaryni's arrival.

His departure would be a shame, as he has good chemistry with Marquinhos, having played alongside each other for the Brazilian national team. Despite this, he should part ways with the club as he hasn't played as well as Willian Pacho and Marquinhos, who are starters. If he does leave, then it could speed up a purchase for Zabaryni.
