As Real Madrid looks for a new right-back, Paris Saint-Germain is taking steps to secure the long-term future of Achraf Hakimi.

The 25-year-old defender has become a pivotal figure in the PSG lineup, and the club is keen to strengthen their ties with him amid the ongoing interest from the Spanish giants.

Luis Enrique has been asserting his authority at the helm of PSG, particularly in the wake of Kylian Mbappe's departure.

The manager has emphasised the importance of team cohesion, aiming for positive results despite the loss of such a high-profile player. In this context, Hakimi’s role on the right side of defence has become even more crucial.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Fichajes), negotiations between PSG and Hakimi are progressing positively. The Ligue 1 champions are keen to extend his contract, which currently runs until 2026, with plans to secure a new long-term deal that could last until 2030.

This move is likely to be a blow to Real Madrid, who have kept an eye on their former player. Achraf, now one of the cornerstones of PSG at the Parc des Princes, would have strengthened Madrid’s defensive options, but it seems they will have to look elsewhere. Carlo Ancelotti’s side may turn their attention to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as an alternative.

PSG are really keen on keeping Hakimi, seeing him as a key player in their future plans. As talks carry on, it’ll be interesting to see how Real Madrid handle this hiccup in their hunt for a new right-back.

Hakimi, who was recently appointed vice-captain of PSG, is already an integral part of the project led by Luis Enrique. As long as he continues to play a key role, it's highly unlikely that the Moroccan will have any interest in leaving.
