PSG left shocked as Real Madrid hijack deal for Leipzig winger Yan Diomandé

Yan Diomandé has been much sought after by a number of clubs this summer, but this week looks set to be signing for Real Madrid as part of a major summer overhaul for the Spanish club, who are now under the tutelage of legendary Portuguese coach José Mourinho.

PSG had been the frontrunners in the race to sign the Ivory Coast international and was favoured by the players but Real Madrid's incredible pool and their willingness to meet RB Leipzig's demand proved decisive.

Real Madrid hijacked Yan Diomandé's move to PSG

Diomandé's impressive season at RB Leipzig had led to him becoming a target for a number of high profile European clubs, also including Liverpool, but PSG had looked set to be the ones able to sign him, before Real Madrid's last minute hijacking of the transfer.

Diomandé is now one of a number of players who have signed for Real Madrid this summer, also including Denzel Dumphries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva. José Mourinho has been hired by the Spanish club in order to restore a sense of discipline, and while 100 million euros seems an excessive price for a player whose career experience and gametime is as limited as Diomandé's, clearly the Spanish side are willing to spend big in order to return to the pinacle of Spanish and European football.

This transfer means that Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr. who is still negotiating for a contract extension could be set to leave the Spanish side, following rumours of interest from Arsenal among other teams, including Premier League side Arsenal.

PSG, who have already sold Gonçalo Ramos this summer and also are now involved in talks to sell Bradley Barcola (for a rumoured 170 million - which would make him the third most expensive player of all time) will need to reinforce their attacking roster before the start of the 2026-27 campaign. Their interest in Diomandé would seem to indicate that they want to sign players who are capable of playing across the attacking line (similar profiles to those that currently make up Luis Enrique's attack), so other players who fit that bill may be targeted by the French side.

Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez and Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche remain two names that have been repeatedly linked with moves to Paris this summer, so represent players to keep an eye on for PSG fans. However, as of now, PSG are yet to sign a single player this summer, with Kang In Lee and Ramos departing the side - meaning less depth in the attacking areas.
