The international break is often a source of concern for many clubs that see most of their key players flying out to represent their countries amid a busy calendar.

Following their historical season, PSG and Luis Enrique made the choice to have no preseason to give as much time off as possible to his players. Additionally, the Spaniard tactician made sure to rotate his squad over the first four games of the season to avoid any injuries of his stars. Nonetheless, it appeared to be an unsuccessful maneuver as both Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé suffered muscular injuries while on international duty with France as they defeated Ukraine during the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

PSG suffer double injury scare as Dembélé and Doué are sidelined

The injury suffered by Ousmane Dembélé is certainly the most frustrating for the club as the 27-year-old was already a concern following his worrying exit from PSG's thrilling 6-3 win over Toulouse last weekend. His presence in the group with France was already a surprise for many as he was expected to rest and avoid any setbacks. However, Didier Deschamps kept him in the group and used him as a substitute when Désiré Doué came off at halftime after sustaining an injrury himself.

Following the game, Didier Deschamps France's national team head coach was asked if he had any doubt about playing Dembélé in this game despite his previous scare against Toulouse: " Yes, I was sure, otherwise I wouldn't have made him play. Furthermore, it's the other thigh. He was in good condition. Unfortunately for him, but it could have happened to any other player. I decided after consulting him and the medical team, there was no problem."

The former Borussia Dortmund player is now set to undergo medical tests and MRI to assess the extent of his muscular injury after leaving the national team camp following the game. Therefore, his participation in PSG's Champions League debut against Atalanta on September 17 and PSG's trip to the Stade Velodrome for Le Classique against Olympique de Marseille on September 21 are in doubt.

As for Désiré Doué, the PSG star sustained a calf injury and was taken off at halftime as a "precaution" by his coach in their 2-0 victory over Ukraine. The 20-year-old was seen limping on his way out of the stadium. He is set to undergo medical tests to assess the extent of his injury as he is also leaving the assembly to return to his club.
