PSG have yet to complete any transfers this summer so far, but are reported to be interested in a pair of players from English club West Ham United, who were relegated in 18th place in the Premier League last season. The Hammers, whose demise was only confirmed on the final day of the Premier League, must now sell a number of their players in order to avoid financial catastrophe in the English Second tier.

PSG interested by West Ham duo

Two of West Ham’s star players are Matheus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville, both of whom impressed for the London club last season despite the side’s eventual downfall to the second tier. Fernandes, a central midfielder, has also long since been coveted by other sides in the Premier League, after an excellent season with West Ham: the midfielder made 36 league appearances, scoring four goals, and was one of West Ham’s standout players in a difficult season, offering the kind of calmness and smoothness on the ball that arguably wouldn’t look out of place in a Luis Enrique system.

The 21-year-old would perhaps not be a starting midfielder at PSG, at least not straight away, given the sustained excellent form of Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves, but would be an interesting and strong option off the bench, although PSG would certainly have to pay a premium price to secure his services.

Summerville, a 24 year-old Dutch winger, also had a decent season for the Hammers, managing five goals and two assists in 29 Premier League starts. Summerville has also been called up to the Netherlands’ World Cup squad, although he expressed ‘surprise’ at having made the cut, given his relegation with West Ham last season. Were Summerville to sign for PSG, he would most certainly also be a rotation or backup option, given the quality attacking depth that the European Champions possess. However, Summerville has been more impressive than his numbers suggest over the course of last season, often standing out as one of West Ham’s most creative players, although his end product was at times slightly erratic.

PSG fans won’t be blown away by this news, and some will perhaps consider that the club should be targeting higher profile signings with more experience at a European level, although in fairness it is in fact this exact sort of shrewd signing that has seen PSG accomplish so much over the last few years. Both players have been priced at between 50 and 100 million euros: again, a hefty transfer fee, but not so unusual in a football era in which market inflation is rampant and players with a less impressive CV than either West Ham star are frequently are sold for well over 50 million euros.
