As France took down Ukraine 2-0 in their World Cup Qualifiers group stage opener, PSG suffered a double injury blow as Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué went down with muscular injuries that will keep them sidelined for several weeks.
Following PSG's official medical update on the players, it is now confirmed that Dembélé suffered a serious hamstring injury and will be unavailable for around six weeks. Meanwhile Désiré Doué suffered a strain in his right calf and is expected to be out for around four weeks. Both players are therefore out of contention to participate in Paris' Champions League opener against Atalanta on September 17 and will also miss Le Classique against Olympique de Marseille on September 21.
While both injuries are unfortunate, they will see two of PSG's best offensive players miss an extended period of time, leaving the club frustrated in the process as Ousmane Dembélé's injury could have been prevented by him not taking part of the international window.
PSG slam French Football Federation after double injury setbacks
In a statement released on their social media, the European Champions called for a 'new medical sports coordination protocol' between clubs and countries after sending a letter to the French Football Federation.
Last weekend, as Les Parisiens defeated Toulouse in a thrilling contest, Ousmane Dembélé came out after what appeared to be a knock to his left hamstring and was expected to miss the upcoming international window. However, the 27-year-old was still included in the French squad and even made an appearance from the bench which led to his injury.
Following the injuries to Dembélé and Doué, PSG criticised the French national team handling of the situation, stating:
"The club regrets that these medical recommendation were not taken into account by the French national team's medical staff, as well as the complete lack of consultation and communication with its own medical team."
"The recent events, both serious and avoidable, must lead to swift and immediate corrective measures. The club stands ready to contribute actively to this collective effort, in the interest of the players, and professional football as a whole"

Later, Didier Deschamps, France's national team head coach hit back at the club for its statement. In an interview given to Téléfoot, he said:
" I understand, putting myself in their shoes, if I was a club, I would have felt the same. I am not here to take risks, but obviously, with Ousmane Dembélé, if you keep players on the bench, you are not taking risks. But from the moment there's players on the pitch, risks are part of the equation."
