PSG take down Seattle Sounders and reach Round of 16
Paris Saint-Germain took down Seattle Sounders 2-0 in their last group game and secured their spot onto the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup ending the group stage at the top spot ahead of Botafogo. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi sealed the win for the European Champions.
Despite a strong start, Paris Saint-Germain failed to get past a well-organised Seattle Sounders side inside the first 30 minutes of the game. However, the Parisians were able to break the deadlock thanks to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who deflected Vitinha's wide long range effort into the net (35'). Kvaratskhelia's first goal in the competition is brought PSG a step closer to secure their spot in the Round of 16.
Both sides then went into the halftime break with PSG firmly holding onto their lead while trying to extend their advantage over Seattle.
Twenty minutes into the second half, substitute Bradley Barcola delivered a wonderful cross towards Achraf Hakimi who made it 2-0 for the European Champions (65'). The second Parisians' goal is likely securing their spot into the Round of 16 of the tournament.
Up next, Luis Enrique and his team will face the runners-up of Group A, a group featuring Lionel Messi's Inter Milan, Palmeiras, Porto and Al-Ahly. The Round of 16 game will take place on Sunday June 29.
