Following their 2-0 victory over Liverpool and their qualification for the semi-finals of the Champions League, PSG will now face Lyon at the Parc des Princes on Matchday 30 of Ligue 1 McDonald's. The Parisians hope to increase the gap between them and RC Lens ahead of their title-deciding clash next month, while Lyon hope to keep their Champions League dreams alive.
For this game, Luis Enrique will have most of his players available, with the exception of Nuno Mendes who sustained a knock against Liverpool. However, the Spaniard will see the return of Fabian Ruiz in the squad, with the 30-year-old expected to earn some minutes against Les Gones.
Luis Enique made six changes compared to the side that defeated the Reds midweek, with Zabarnyi, and Hernandez taking place in the backline. Meanwhile, Beraldo will slot in midfield alongside Vitinha and Senny Mayulu. The frontline will be composed of Doué. Barcola and Ramos.
Paris Saint-Germain's starting XI: Safonov; Zabarnyi, Pacho, Hernandez, Hakimi; Beraldo, Vitinha, Senny Mayulu; Barcola, Ramos, Doué.
Lyon's starting XI: Greif; Mata, Niakhaté, Kluivert, Abner, Maitland-Niles; Merah, Morton, Mangala; Moreira, Endrick.
Paris Saint-Germain fall at the hands of Lyon
Real Madrid loanee Endrick scored and gave the lead to the visitors after only six minutes, scoring his fourth league goal since joining Lyon in January. The Parisians have had a really slow start up to this point and their fans will hope that this goal will serve as a wake up call.
However, it was once again the Gones who create the most danger for their opponents as Abner's overhead kick was saved remarkably by Safonov. The first chance for PSG came through Lucas Beraldo's long range strike. On the resulting corner, Lyon launched a deadly fastbreak and Moreira made the most of his chance to give a two-goal lead to Lyon after 18 minutes.
The hosts increased the pressure on Lyon and was awarded a penalty after a foul on Hernandez. Unfortunately, Gonçalo Ramos' effort was saved by Greif as Paris missed once again from the spot (33'). This game went from bad to worse as Vitinha was subbed off after 39 minutes by Warren Zaire-Emery due to an injury.
With 30 minutes left in the contest, Luis Enrique made a triple substitution with Kvaratskhelia, Dembélé and Kang-In Lee coming on. The Georgian quickly managed to get a big chance but his effort was saved by Greif.
Ousmane Dembélé saw his effort hit the crossbar with 15 minutes left in the game as Paris pushed to cut their deficit. In the dying embers of the game, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored a wonderful goal to make it 2-1, his 14th goal of the season.
Up next, PSG will face relegation-threatened FC Nantes on April 22 on Matchday 26 of Ligue McDonald's.
