The Euros kicked off last Friday and the Copa America begins later on this week. PSG have a decision to make regarding how they are going to replace Kylian Mbappe who went to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The decision that they make regarding the Mbappe replacement can't be based on the Euros or Copa America. Here at PSG Post, we will delve into why a player's performance at an international tournament should never be a factor when making a signing.

Why PSG shouldn't sign players based on International tournaments

Not a big enough sample of games

There are nowhere near enough games at the Euros and Copa America to determine how well a player will do at a specific club.

If a club signs a player based on a few games at an international tournament it would be naive to suggest that it will translate to club football which is played at a quicker pace.

There have been instances where a club signs a player based on one season only for them to be a one-season wonder.

International football is completely different

Playing for your club and country differs in so many ways. Club football is played at a quicker tempo and there is more room for error.

For instance, in a World Cup game against France if England goes 1 nil up they err on the side of caution by being defensive. This is because any lapse in concentration could prove costly, especially against a team that has better players.

It is also different in club football there is more chemistry since the players train and play together more frequently.
