PSG faced the biggest setback of their season on Tuesday night when they failed to break down a well-organized Dortmund side who ran out 0-1 winners in Paris.

In the aftermath of the result, we delve into three reasons why this will put a dampener on Les Parisen's season.

1. The Ligue 1 Trophy is not anymore as important

PSG are defending champions and have won 10 of the last 12 league titles. The club from the capital has the biggest spending power in France which has helped them monopolise the league.

The state-backed club won't see a title as a massive accomplishment because having the biggest spending power has enabled them to buy the best players in not just the league but across the continent. It would come as more of a shock if they did not consistently end up as champions.

2. They would have had a chance against Real Madrid in the final

Luis Enrique's side would not be written off against Los Blancos if they played in the final. Real Madrid would have been favorites but PSG could hit them on the break with Dembele, Barcola, and Mbappe.

Despite the danger they would pose on the counter PSG would struggle to contain Real Madrid's midfield. Kylian Mbappe's likely departure will be a good send-off and would have been a great incentive for Les Parisens to win.

A Real Madrid vs PSG final would have had a great storyline considering that there is a great chance Mbappe will end up there in the summer.

3. The club will now feel as if the season is over

Being so close to the elusive trophy will dampen the spirit ahead of the last few games of the season. This is far from ideal as they will come into the Coupe de France final vs Lyon in bad form and lacking confidence. Coming into the game out of form could play into Lyon's hands as they are hungry to get one over their rivals.
