Why Manuel Ugarte potentially staying is good

Manchester United seemed to have been priced out of a move for Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils are reluctant to meet PSG's asking price and have turned their attention to other alternatives.

Manuel Ugarte looks set to stay at PSG after recent reports have suggested that Man United are reluctant to meet the French champions asking price. The Uruguayan international would have been a good fit at the Premier League giants as they need a defensive midfield. As a result, the Red Devils have lined up other alternatives to Ugarte. Here at PSG Post, we discuss why Ugarte's potential stay is good news.

PSG midfield will have more depth

If rumours are true regarding Manchester United pulling out of a move for Ugarte then the French champions will have more depth in midfield. Les Parisians recently wrapped up a move for Joao Neves from Benfica for €50 million.

This transfer will set up PSG's midfield for the next 10 years since the likes of Joao Neves, Warren Zaire Emery and Manuel Ugarte are 23 or under. They also have backup options in the form of Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, and Danilo Pereira. Competition for places is ideal for PSG as they can have fresh legs for midweek Champions League games.

They can sell the deadwood

If Manuel Ugarte stays at PSG then they will need to sell at least one midfielder. The recent arrival of Joao Neves means that competition for a starting berth in midfield has become more fierce.

Players who were already on the fringes will get less playing time which could mean they will force a way out of the club in the winter transfer window. The French champions will not stand in a player's way should they want a move out especially if they can recoup a huge sum for them.
