PSG await Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals after dispatching 10 men Barcelona 1-4 on Tuesday night. This encounter will be eagerly anticipated not only because these two played against each other in the group stage but also because of the key matchups that will be on display.

Here at PSG Post, we will discuss the battles that will be crucial in determining who will progress to the final in Wembley.

1. Kylian Mbappe vs Julian Ryerson

French captain Mbappe will have a massive say in whether PSG will progress to the final in Wembley. Despite being far from his best in the first leg at home he was clutch when it mattered most when PSG came away 1-4 winners in Barcelona's backyard.

Julian Ryerson will be tasked will dealing with PSG's talisman suffice to say it will be an extremely tall order. Mbappe will not have everything his way against a right-back who has improved drastically this season.

2. Sancho and Malen vs PSG's fullbacks

Sancho has had to reignite his career at Dortmund after falling out with Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag. He is slowly turning things around at Dortmund but has not reached the levels he was at during his first spell in Germany.

He will be up against Achraf Hakimi which will be a difficult task as the Moroccan fullback trained with him when he was at Dortmund. On the opposite side, Donyell Malen's pace could pose a problem for Lucas Hernandez.

3. The midfield battle

Games are usually won and lost in the midfield. Whichever midfield controls the two games better will be crucial in determining the outcome of the tie.

Vitinha and Warren Zaire-Emery are having great seasons for PSG but will struggle to contain Sabitzer who has been performing well lately. Manuel Ugarte has the toughest task of them all in dealing with Julian Brandt.

The German playmaker has excelled this season scoring six goals and registering 11 assists in 27 Bundesliga games.
