What Luis Enrique can learn from France's Euro exploits

France lost 2-1 to Spain in the semi-finals of the Euros on Tuesday night. Les Bleus bowed out of the competition in limp fashion given the quality of players that they have at their disposal. Here at PSG Post, we discuss what Luis Enrique can take from France's Euro campaign

France was one of the most disappointing teams at the Euros when they competed. Before the semi-final against Spain, Les Bleus had scored one penalty and two own goals.

It took until the semi-final for them to score a goal from open play which is underwhelming for a side that possesses the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, Kingsley Coman, and Bradley Barcola.

To make matters worse they had two 0-0 draws prior to the semi-final against Spain. Ironically the semi-final against Spain was the game they were most expensive. Here at PSG Post, we discuss what PSG can learn from France's Euro debacle.

1. Luis Enrique should never err on the side of caution

Enrique must not fall into the trap of being too pragmatic. France's Euro campaign is the perfect example of this. Going into the tournament Didier Deschamps side were joint favourites alongside England. What held the team back from achieving great things in Germany was Deschamps tactics. He was far too defensive about how he would set his team up and his line-ups which invited pressure onto their backline.

2. A clinical number 9 is vitally important

France as well as being too defensive also lacked a clinical edge up front. Kylian Mbappe played all his games at the Euros with a mask on apart from the semi-final against Spain and in the encounter vs Spain, he missed a very good chance towards the end of the game. Even in the first game against Austria, he missed a great chance when he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Marcus Thuram and Oliver Giroud also flattered to deceive in the game time they received.
