While PSG is going all out to strengthen its squad, especially in attack, departures are also expected. Among them, a positive resolution is anticipated for the long-running saga surrounding the future of Manuel Ugarte.
Since joining Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, Manuel Ugarte began his journey under Luis Enrique as a starter, at least for a few weeks. However, the Uruguayan soon saw Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha take over the role in front of the defense.
This situation reflects the Spanish coach’s decision not to include Ugarte in his plans for the 2024/2025 season. Moreover, the arrival of Joao Neves for a fee ranging between €60M and €70M, including bonuses, making him the most expensive midfielder in PSG's history, has further dashed Ugarte’s hopes of securing a spot in PSG’s midfield.
Ugarte’s move to Manchester United gains momentum
In this context, the Parisian number 4 is keen to join Manchester United, who have been seeking midfield reinforcements since the start of the summer transfer window. While Paris Saint-Germain spent €60M during the 2023 summer transfer window to secure Manuel Ugarte’s services, the Parisian management is looking to minimize their financial loss in this operation, making negotiations with their northern English counterparts challenging.
However, the situation could be resolved with a loan deal including an obligation to buy—an idea that PSG is reportedly willing to accept, according to English journalist Ben Jacobs. Nevertheless, the capital club is in no rush in these negotiations and is ready to extend them until the final moments of the transfer window if necessary.
