Ugarte joins Manchester United after PSG exit

In the summer transfer window of 2024, PSG made four signings, but the club was relatively inactive in terms of departures—until now. After just one season, Manuel Ugarte is bidding farewell to Paris.
Arriving from Sporting Lisbon last summer for €60 million, Ugarte departs the French capital after only one season. He was undoubtedly one of PSG’s standout performers during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign, delivering exceptional performances. However, his fall from grace has been steep.
With the rise of Fabian Ruiz and the remarkable form of Vitinha, the Uruguayan midfielder found himself relegated to the bench in the latter half of the season. Now, out of Luis Enrique’s plans, Ugarte still holds significant market value and is set to embark on a new adventure in the Premier League with Manchester United.

For Ugarte, this move represents an opportunity to reignite his career and take on a key role in a team where his playing style will allow him to thrive. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal was completed for €50 million plus €10 million in bonuses, with PSG retaining a 10% sell-on clause.
The traditional medical check took place on Wednesday morning, and the former PSG player signed a contract with the Red Devils that ties him to the club until June 2029. Additionally, Manchester United’s official statement noted that Ugarte has the option to extend his contract by an additional year.
The 23-year-old shared his thoughts after the transfer was confirmed: "It’s an incredible feeling to join a club of this magnitude, one that is admired worldwide. The project discussed with me is extremely exciting. Manchester United is an ambitious club, and I am an ambitious player. The passion of the supporters is something very important to me. I know how amazing United fans are, and I can’t wait to experience Old Trafford. I am determined to succeed."
