Thierry Henry separates himself from assistant position at PSG

Thierry Henry might not be joining PSG as Julian Nagelsmann's assistant, according to information revealed by L'Equipe right before the weekend. The Parisian club is no longer convinced about putting this duo together, and the French world champion isn't sure about the proposition either.

PSG could be backtracking (at least partially) on their initial plans of appointing Nagelsmann as their coach while sitting legendary forward Henry next to him. While Nagelsmann and Henry were considered a priority in recent days, the club is now uncertain about bringing them together.

L'Equipe reported on Friday that if Nagelsmann takes charge of PSG, Henry, the former Monaco and Arsenal striker and current Amazon consultant, won't join his coaching staff.

The PSG management has "doubts about the success of this unique partnership," wrote L'Equipe. While negotiations are ongoing with Nagelsmann, the French newspaper reported that that is not the case with Henry. However, there are sources within the club "trying to temper the excitement" surrounding Nagelsmann's potential arrival, which is by no means set in stone yet.

According to L'Equipe, PSG will need to negotiate with Bayern Munich if they want to hire and appoint their former coach as the 35-year-old German is still linked to the Bavarian organization and under an official contract with the German club.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG's president, attended an ECA summit in Turkey on Thursday and is expected to meet with Bayern's leadership to discuss the matter as soon as this weekend or next week.

The pre-season activities will kick off after the international break in mid-June, so there is some pressure building in Paris with Christophe Galtier expected to get sacked soon and no replacement secured to take over the manager position.

When asked about the rumors linking him to PSG on CBS, Henry remained vague about his future saying that "nothing is ever certain" to the mics of Champions League Today. He told folks watching to wait, saying that "we will see how things unfold."

If recent reports are to be believed, then there is a high probability of Henry ultimately taking the position of Nagelsmann's assistant. It will basically come down to the German coach naming Henry as his preferred ass man and forcing PSG to hire the two of them if they want to appoint him as the head coach of the squad. It'll be as simple as that.
