Hugo Ekitike's summer transfer saga took an unexpected turn as he remained at PSG against the club's will. Instead of trying to move to a club that would have suited him best and given him more chances while helping PSG fill their coffers, the young Frenchman opted to face stout competition alongside the club's new recruits and eating bench time for the remainder of the season.

Thierry Henry, the newly appointed coach of the France Espoirs (Under-21) team, has now become intricately linked to Ekitike's journey and he shared some words about it in his latest press conference as the head of the U21 contingent.

Thierry Henry, who did not select Ekitike for the Espoirs squad, revealed that he had "reached out" to the young striker to "assess his current situation." Henry remained discreet about the details of their conversation but emphasized that Ekitike "knows what is expected of him."

Henry revealed, "I called Hugo, I wanted to know where he was." The manager kept on going, saying "I'm not going to tell you about our discussion. He knows what he has to do, not just what I expect, and what he has to do next."

"We'll see what happens," Henry finished.

Henry also acknowledged the challenging position Ekitike finds himself in within the PSG hierarchy. He recognized the stark contrast from just a year ago when Ekitike was highly sought after, and how now he faces "intense competition" in the attacking department.

Henry remarked, "It's not easy to find yourself in this kind of situation. We must remember that a year ago everyone wanted him... the competition up front in Paris is going to be intense."

Born in 2002, the Reims native has yet to receive a call-up to the France U21 team but he has already appeared in six games scoring one goal at the U20 level.
