According to reports from Foot Mercato, PSG has started negotiations with current AS Roma manager Mourinho for the Portuguese to take over the head coach position at Paris Saint-Germain next season in replacement of Christophe Galtier.

PSG is experiencing its worst season since QSI took over. Both on and off the pitch, a lot has happened from bad runs of results to players not caring about the well-being of the club and instead opting to skip training and partying in Saudi Arabia.

Despite being under contract until June 2024, Christophe Galtier is expected to no longer be on the Parisian bench next season with the club poised to sack him as soon as the Ligue 1 games are over.

Several names have been suggested as potential replacements, and PSG appears to have taken action with one of their targets, one in particular that has connections to sporting advisor Luis Campos.

PSG still has five matches to secure their eighth Ligue 1 title. With a five-point lead over Marseille, the Parisians cannot afford any mistakes. Even if Galtier wins the title, his job is not secure.

After a strong start, his team quickly lost momentum and failed to deliver the quality of football expected of them. They were knocked out in the Round of 16 of the Champions League and the Coupe de France.

Despite having a year left on his contract with PSG, Galtier is unlikely to continue his tenure as coach. Julian Nagelsmann, Thiago Motta, and Jose Mourinho are some of the names that have been mentioned as potential and realistic replacements, with Zinedine Zidane still the no. 1 (yet a bit unrealistic) target.

While he may not have the same aura as he once did, Mourinho's ability to assert his authority over players is appealing to PSG internally. Discussions between the Portuguese coach and the Parisian leaders have reportedly started, but negotiations with Mourinho's current club AS Roma have not.

This does not guarantee that Mourinho will be the one to take over at PSG this summer, but he is being considered as a viable solution and the club is already talking some terms and future plans with him in the event Roma eventually entertain the idea of letting their coach go.

For his part, Mourinho is reportedly attracted to PSG, where he could give his career a much-needed boost and aim at winning bigger things than whatever little titles he can lift with Roma.
