Report reveals why FC Barcelona want to sign PSG transfer target
Paris Saint-Germain are interested in one of Europe’s most versatile midfielders, Joshua Kimmich. The Bayern Munich star was reportedly a top target for the Parisian club, who were keen to bolster their midfield options with the experienced German international.
However, despite PSG’s best efforts, Kimmich opted to remain at Bayern Munich for the final year of his contract, setting the stage for a potential transfer saga next summer.
Kimmich’s decision to stay at Bayern for now has only heightened interest from other European giants. According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona have identified Kimmich as a key part of their 2025 strategy to strengthen both their midfield and defence.
The Catalan club are reportedly preparing to make a move for Kimmich when his contract with Bayern expires, hoping to secure the 29-year-old on a free transfer.
Barcelona’s interest in Kimmich is fuelled by his versatility on the pitch. Known primarily as a central midfielder, Kimmich has also been deployed as a right-back. This flexibility is particularly appealing to Barcelona, who are looking to reinforce their squad with players capable of performing in multiple positions.

The interest from Barcelona isn’t just speculative; it appears that Kimmich himself is open to the idea of a move to the Camp Nou. Former footballer Bojan Krkic recently commented on the situation, suggesting that Kimmich is eager to join the Catalan side. Speaking on Cadena SER, Krkic noted:
" Kimmich really wants to come to Barca. The coach plays an important role, and Barca has what it takes to sign good players with a coach recognised as Flick"
Should Kimmich decide against renewing his contract with Bayern, the chance of him leaving on a free transfer next summer becomes quite likely. For Barcelona, this would be a major win, particularly if they manage to outmanoeuvre PSG in landing his signature.
That said, PSG’s midfield is looking solid for now, with the likes of Vitinha, Joao Neves, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Fabian Ruiz all performing well under the current setup.
