PSG would try to sign a defensive superstar from Bayern Munich
PSG is actively seeking to bolster its defense in the ongoing winter transfer market, with reported interest in Dayot Upamecano, the French international currently with Bayern Munich.
Facing numerous defensive absences, PSG aims to reinforce its backline in addition to the recent addition of Lucas Beraldo. Several names have surfaced as potential targets. According to Foot Mercato, PSG executives have expressed interest in Dayot Upamecano and have even approached the French international.
However, securing the Bayern Munich defender proves to be a challenging task. Like his teammate Joshua Kimmich, a winter departure for Upamecano is nearly impossible. The German club, grappling with defensive issues and looking to recruit in that area, is unwilling to part ways with the player.
Given the complexity of the Upamecano pursuit, PSG has turned its attention to Diego Llorente. The 30-year-old Spanish central defender, currently on loan at AS Roma from Leeds since January 2023, has received approval from PSG's coach Luis Enrique, who had previously called him up for the Spanish national team.
This appears to be PSG's most promising defensive lead at the moment. Despite regular playtime, José Mourinho, AS Roma's coach, reportedly wouldn't object to Llorente's departure. Foot Mercato also suggests that Luis Campos is well underway in securing a right-sided defender to replace Nordi Mukiele if the latter decides to leave.
