PSG scrapes victory to reclaim top spot after Lille showdown
PSG has successfully passed their first test of the season, albeit with some difficulty, by securing an important 3-1 victory against LOSC to reclaim the top spot in Ligue 1.
Before the international break, PSG faced their first big challenge of the season with an away match against LOSC. A win in Lille would allow the Red & Blue to regain their place as league leaders before the pause. Luis Enrique did not change his starting lineup for this crucial match, maintaining the midfield trio of Warren Zaire-Emery, Joao Neves, and Vitinha.
Against tougher opposition, PSG began to take control of the match but struggled for several minutes against Bruno Genesio’s deep-lying defense. The first chance of the game came from Ousmane Dembele, whose shot was saved by Lucas Chevalier in the 9th minute.

LOSC then created a significant opportunity, but Bafode Diakite’s shot hit Gianluigi Donnarumma’s post after excellent work from Edon Zhegrova against a struggling Lucas Beraldo on the left flank (12’). However, PSG remained focused and were eventually rewarded. After another attacking move on the right side, Ousmane Dembele earned a penalty following a foul by Alexsandro. With Neymar-like composure, Vitinha calmly converted the penalty to give PSG the lead (0-1, 31’).
Shortly after, PSG doubled its advantage thanks to its in-form player, Bradley Barcola. Following a counterattack and an exchange with Marco Asensio, the Parisian top scorer showed great composure to beat the Lille goalkeeper (0-2, 36’). Gianluigi Donnarumma managed to keep a clean sheet in the first half with a fine save from Tiago Santos’ shot (41’), allowing PSG to head into the break with a two-goal lead (0-2).
In the second half, PSG created two good chances through Marco Asensio (53’) and Bradley Barcola (54’), but Lucas Chevalier remained alert. However, with Luis Enrique’s substitutions, the game’s intensity dropped, and PSG was punished by a long-range strike from Edon Zhegrova (1-2, 78’) after poor defending.
The momentum nearly swung in Lille’s favor when Tiago Santos scored, but his goal was disallowed for offside (81’). Ultimately, PSG sealed the victory late in the match thanks to their substitutes. A perfect cross from Desire Doue found Randal Kolo Muani, who headed the ball past Lucas Chevalier (1-3, 90’+2).
This 3-1 win allows PSG to reclaim the top spot in Ligue 1 before the season's first international break. Their next match is against Stade Brestois at Parc des Princes on September 14th.
