PSG's perfect start, Enrique's masterplan unfolds
After securing two impressive victories at the start of the 2024-2025 season, Luis Enrique's PSG can look forward to a promising campaign, thanks to a well-oiled collective unit and new signings that are integrating seamlessly.
Luis Enrique's second year at the helm of PSG has kicked off on a high note. In the early stages of the 2024-2025 season, the Red & Blue have secured two decisive wins against Le Havre (4-1) and Montpellier Herault (6-0). These strong performances have brought smiles to the faces of fans. Le Parisien has outlined the reasons behind this successful start for the French champions.
PSG's perfect start, Enrique's masterplan unfolds
While the opposition's weakness might temper enthusiasm, the quality of play from Luis Enrique's squad signals a bright future. One key factor is the continuity in the team, with little change from the previous season.
Of the 11 starters against MHSC, nine were already with the team in 2023-2024. "Luis Enrique's playing principles are well-known, and most players have been familiar with them for several months. Unlike last year, Paris is not starting from scratch; they are displaying greater collective mastery with well-established routines."
Additionally, the new signings have adapted perfectly to the Spanish coach’s principles, particularly Joao Neves, who fits Enrique's philosophy well. The Parisian coach demands constant movement on the pitch, multiple runs, and intense pressing.
Another crucial aspect of Luis Enrique's game plan is controlling the play. Last season, the Spaniard sometimes lamented the lack of control. However, with Vitinha and now Joao Neves, the former Spain coach can hope for more creativity in the midfield, although this will need to be tested against stronger opponents.
Finally, PSG players are in good physical condition despite varying fitness levels. Without a summer tour, the Red & Blue took the opportunity to train extensively at the PSG Campus. "Luis Enrique and his staff were able to conduct more training sessions than usual, benefiting players like Marco Asensio and Kang-in Lee, who are physically sharp and ready," explains LP.
The internationals who returned later followed a tailored program to build their form, enabling them to make a difference off the bench, as seen against Le Havre.
