During the 2024 summer transfer window, a saga unfolded and concluded with Xavi Simons. The Dutch player, who had just spent a season on loan at RB Leipzig, kept his future shrouded in uncertainty before ultimately choosing to embark on another season-long loan in the Bundesliga.

The story between PSG and Xavi Simons will not turn out as many supporters and followers of the Parisian club had hoped. After his loan spell at PSV Eindhoven, Simons was recalled by the Parisian hierarchy, only to be sent out on loan to RB Leipzig.

Before making his Bundesliga debut, the Parisian talent signed a contract with PSG until 2027, which he still honors. However, after a 2023/2024 season in which Simons played 43 matches, scored 10 goals, and provided 15 assists, the prospect of settling under the Parisian skies seems less appealing.

Following his participation in Euro 2024 with the Netherlands, where they reached the semifinals, the 21-year-old has once again opted for another loan spell at RB Leipzig. Despite the departure of Kylian Mbappe and the vacancy that seemed to be his, it now appears that the story between PSG and Xavi Simons may never truly begin.

A few weeks after the official announcement of his second loan to Germany, the General Director of Red Bull, which owns RB Leipzig, spoke about the club’s desire to retain Simons for the long term: “Our management needs to negotiate this with PSG. For now, he is on loan. But of course, our goal is to keep high-level players like him long-term [...] We have now shown that it is possible, even against strong competition. Sesko received substantial offers, including from the Premier League, but chose to stay with us and even extended his contract.”

With the rise of Bradley Barcola and the signing of Desire Doue, combined with these statements, the idea of seeing Xavi Simons shine in the Red and Blue jersey appears to be drifting further away.
