Xavi Simons showcased his talent during his time at PSV Eindhoven last season and that was more than enough to convince PSG to bring him back to Paris ahead of next season.

Last summer, Xavi Simons made the decision not to extend his contract with PSG. Instead, he joined PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer, signing a five-year deal running through June 2027.

In the 2022/23 campaign, Simons went on to have his best season as a pro, appearing in 48 matches ad scoring 22 goals while also providing 12 assists for his teammates in all competitions.

This summer, after such a marvelous year in the Netherlands, several top-tier clubs across Europe are trying to convince PSV to sell the player. PSG, though, holds a massive advantage over everyone else as they included a buyback clause in Simons' contract with PSV that would allow the French champions to re-acquire him for only €6m before July 31.

According to different media outlets and reporters, leaking the information over the past few days, PSG have already chosen to activate this clause and they have informed both the player and his current club. That, though, would do PSG no good until and unless Simons agrees to trigger the clause and re-join PSG ahead of next season.

At this point, it's unknown where the player's mindset is at. In June, when asked about the situation, Xavi Simons had intentions of continuing his journey with PSV, but he didn't rule out the possibility of returning to PSG.

Journalist Rik Elfrink revealed on Friday, July 14, that PSV have made "every effort to persuade Xavi Simons to extend his contract" with the Dutch side, although, they "have not received a positive response yet from the 20-year-old player".

The Dutch journalist also indicated that PSG are "a serious contender in the pursuit of the player." However, PSG are not the only club interested in Simons, as English clubs are also keeping tabs on the former Barcelona wonderkid although they are aware of PSG's interest in him and the advantage they have thanks to their low-price buyback clause.
