During the summer transfer window, PSG aimed to strengthen their squad comprehensively. One key area of focus was central defense, and although they secured Willian Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt, there were strong indications that the club had also shown interest in Cristian Romero.

With long-term injuries to Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez, and the departure of Milan Skriniar and Danilo Pereira not fitting into Luis Enrique’s plans, PSG recognized the urgent need to enhance their central defensive options.

Initially, Leny Yoro was a top priority for the Parisian club. However, Yoro ultimately signed with Manchester United, prompting PSG to turn their attention to other targets.

Willian Pacho, a 22-year-old Ecuadorian international, was brought in as a key addition to the defense. Despite this acquisition, PSG reportedly had an eye on Cristian Romero, the 26-year-old Argentine center-back currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur.

The interest in Romero was not limited to PSG; Real Madrid and Manchester United also explored the possibility of signing the Argentine. However, Tottenham Hotspur’s management was not receptive to these inquiries. The club's coach, Ange Postecoglou, made it clear that he did not want to entertain the departure of one of his crucial defenders.

Gaston Edul, an Argentine journalist, reports that while Tottenham firmly resisted offers for Romero this summer, it is anticipated that these clubs will make renewed attempts to acquire him in the future.

Romero has only two years remaining on his contract and, it is likely that PSG, along with Real Madrid and Manchester United, will revisit their interest in the Argentine defender during the summer transfer window of 2025.

This situation highlights how unpredictable and tricky the transfer market can be, with clubs constantly adjusting their plans and targets as needs and opportunities shift.
