PSG poised to clinch Ligue 1 title this Wednesday
By Oscar Cortes
On April 24th, PSG will play the match for Matchday 29 against Lorient away, where they could be crowned as champions of Ligue 1.
PSG currently leads Ligue 1 with 66 points, being very close to sealing the championship title, having an 11-point lead over their closest pursuer, Monaco, who sits in second place with 55 points, having played the same 29 matches as the Parisian club.
There's a possibility that PSG could clinch the title on April 24th, with 4 matches remaining in Ligue 1. However, this scenario wouldn't solely depend on them but also on the outcome of the Monaco vs Lille match on the same day.
The scenario would be as follows:
- PSG must secure a victory against Lorient.
- Monaco must be defeated or draw against Lille.
This would leave the standings as follows:
- PSG (69 points)
- Monaco (55/56 points) in case of a draw or defeat
With a point difference of 14 or 13, PSG would automatically be crowned champions of Ligue 1 since Monaco wouldn't be able to catch up with them in the standings with 4 matches remaining.
Another scenario exists for PSG to be crowned champions of Ligue 1
There's also a high chance that PSG won't become champions on April 24th but might secure the title on April 27th, when they host Le Havre at Parc des Princes for Matchday 31 of Ligue 1. This scenario would be even more promising for celebrating the title at home.
It's expected that PSG, through this scenario, will claim their eleventh Ligue 1 title, becoming the most successful club in the history of the championship.
