Central defender Thiago Silva, a notable figure in PSG's recent history, spoke to the club's official website as he celebrated his 40th birthday. This was an opportunity for the Brazilian to reflect on his eight years in Paris and reaffirm his deep attachment to the club and the city.
Having returned to Fluminense this summer, 16 years after leaving for Europe, Thiago Silva cherishes his time at PSG, describing it as the "most important period" of his life both as a professional player and as a father.
On his 40th birthday, celebrated on Sunday, 22 September, 'O Monstro' received the new home shirt of PSG and shared his thoughts in an interview.
Emotionally moved while receiving his gift, Thiago Silva recalled his eight years in the Rouge & Bleu shirt: "With this shirt, I achieved so much," said Silva.
"Paris Saint-Germain is very special to me and my family. I tried to give everything for this club. It will remain in my heart for life. A club that has marked me not only as a professional player but also as a man and a father. My time in Paris completely changed me, and my family too."
"The pandemic prevented me from saying goodbye to the fans as I would have liked"
After leaving for Chelsea in the summer of 2020 following a defeat in the Champions League final against Bayern and during the Covid period, Thiago Silva did not receive the farewell he deserved:
"I gave everything for the club, and in the end, we reached a final but did not win. Unfortunately, Covid meant I couldn't say goodbye to the supporters as I had hoped. But I remember that before leaving for the Final Four in Lisbon, we played a friendly match at the Parc des Princes (against Celtic FC).
The stadium was at 10% capacity, but the fans still did something for me. It touched me deeply because I gave everything for the club, so receiving this tribute from the supporters before my departure was very important to me."
Four years on, Thiago Silva has not forgotten PSG and remains a loyal supporter of the club:
"I watch a lot of French football, especially all of PSG's matches. And every time I watch Paris Saint-Germain, I feel like Thiago Silva is still there. I was so used to talking about Paris that it has become part of my life. It was the most important period for me as a professional player and as a father... It was wonderful. What more can I say? I simply wish the best for the club, the supporters, and the city. Paris Saint-Germain is magical, it’s magnificent!"
