Paris Saint-Germain have once again lost out to Olympique Lyonnais and have lost out on the Trophee Des Championnes title for a second season running after facing a 2-0 loss to Lyon.

After securing the AMOS Cup just a few days earlier, PSG were determined to bag their second trophy in just a span of a week. But this task was always going to be much more difficult than any other PSG face, and that proved to be just the case as they couldn't keep Lyon from surpassing them.

Starting Line-up

Formation 5-3-2

GK - Katarzyna Kiedrzyenk

Defenders - Karchaoui, De Almeida, Le Guilly, Calligaris, Vangsgaard

Midfielders - Jean-Francois, Groenen, Geyoro (C)

Forwards - Baltimore, Martens

Match Report

Gerard Precheur did make some changes from the previous game his team played, such as the captain's armband being passed back to Geyoro and the re-installment of Oriane Jean-Francois, who has been missing all Summer due to an injury.

While the team's first 45 minutes started off well, few real chances were created. Lyon's new signing from Reims, Melchie Dumornay, headed in the game's first goal, giving Lyon their 1-0 lead.

Second-half, before the 70-minute mark hit, Eugene Le Sommer put her side up 2-0 after overall some quite poor defending from PSG.

Lyon were 2-0 winners, once again getting the better over Paris. After the defeat, it raises the question: Have PSG done enough this transfer window?

The question I feel that pretty much got answered on Sunday evening, no, they haven't done enough. While clubs like Lyon, Chelsea, and Barcelona have strengthened their squads even more, PSG haven't even slightly matched up to those signings.

PSG have brought in many players, mostly defenders, to replace the likes of Ashley Lawrence and Amanda Ilestedt. But names such as Esmee Brugts, who is one of the biggest upcoming young talents, ended up joining Barcelona, and Tabitha Chawinga, the Italian League's top scorer, has not had any further progress.

After the departure of Kadidiatou Diani to Lyon and the ongoing injury of Marie Anotinette-Katoto, you would expect PSG to find solutions for those two situations, but besides Brazilian striker Ana Vitoria, there has been nothing.

The D1Arkema season will officially get underway on Friday, the 15th September. But for PSG, it will on Sunday, the 17th, against Bordeaux.

Jade Le Guilly

After the loss to Lyon, defender Jade Le Guilly expressed her thoughts.

" We have been working hard, and it played down in details. It's over now; we're already focusing on the next game against Bordeaux. We're also keeping a corner of the head at the next game against Lyon."

PSG will play against Lyon again on the 1st October for a League Matchup. And it's safe to say PSG must improve a lot more if they want a chance to get any points from that game.
