As PSG looks to strengthen its midfield with the imminent arrival of Joao Neves, another player is also being sought for this position: Joshua Kimmich. This prospect, which emerged last winter, appears to have been reopened this summer.

At the end of his first season on the bench of Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Enrique pointed out his midfield as an area that needed reinforcement. The Spanish coach's wishes have been heard, as Joao Neves is expected to soon sign a contract with the capital club.

However, PSG is hoping for an additional reinforcement in the midfield: Joshua Kimmich. According to Le Parisien, this possibility arose on January 12, following Franz Beckenbauer's funeral, Parisian and Munich leaders met to discuss the situation of the player who can also play as a right-back. At that time, the German international was in a delicate situation, primarily due to his poor relationship with Thomas Tuchel.

This situation does not appear to have changed despite the changes in Bayern Munich's management structure. Indeed, with Max Eberl as the sporting director and Vincent Kompany on the bench, Joshua Kimmich remains a player in his last year of contract with the Bavarian club. The management style of the Belgian coach, which involves granting no special privileges to the most experienced in his locker room, might not suit a strong-willed player like Joshua Kimmich.

Even though the Bayern management hopes for a contract extension, they are more open to a departure than they were last winter.

According to Le Parisien, Joshua Kimmich’s entourage does not wish to comment on the rumors, and the player does not seem to be considering either a departure or an extension in Bavaria, despite recently building a large family home in Munich. The idea of being free of any contract next summer at 30 years old, and hoping for a salary close to €20 million annually plus a signing bonus, is more appealing to the versatile midfielder.

While he is linked with Manchester City due to his good relationship with Pep Guardiola, or FC Barcelona for similar reasons with Hansi Flick, Joshua Kimmich has not yet made a decision. PSG is indeed in the race, but Le Parisien asserts that for now, France and Ligue 1 are not among his priorities. It remains to be seen if Paris Saint-Germain can be convincing if the opportunity arises.
