PSG expected to take advantage of Barcelona's struggles by bidding for Ansu Fati
As PSG prepares for the upcoming 2023-24 season, the club is actively pursuing various options to strengthen a forward line that will have to do without the presence of the departed Lionel Messi.
Although there will be at least one new face in the offensive lines of PSG next season (Marco Asensio), that's far from an optimal improvement considering the magnitude and the talent lost by letting Messi go.
PSG might be tracking the availability of another player linked to Barcelona, this one much younger than the Miami-bound Messi: Spain international and wunderkind forward Ansu Fati.
The uncertainty surrounding the future of both Neymar Jr and Hugo Ekitike isn't really helping matters, either. Yes, Marco Asensio, is expected to join the club soon and be officially announced probably this week, but he looks more like a bench player rather than a weekly starter.
That's why Luis Campos, PSG's sporting advisor, has been thinking about targeting a top-level center forward and an explosive winger to play alongside Kylian Mbappe.
Names like Marcus Thuram, Victor Osimhen, and Harry Kane have been frequently mentioned for the center-forward role in recent weeks, while Bernardo Silva has also entered the conversation following Manchester City's triumph in the Champions League.
However, another option has emerged of late mostly because of the financial struggles that Barcelona is going through these days and that might force them to surrender some players and complete a fire sale. According to Mundo Deportivo, the option in question is young forward Ansu Fati.
Fati, who has faced difficulties at Barcelona and has struggled to regain his form after an injury, could be sold this summer, especially as Barcelona is in need of funds.
Jorge Mendes, who also represents the interests of Manuel Ugarte as well as Fati, remains a key contact point with Luis Campos. Mundo Deportivo reports that PSG is closely monitoring the situation of Ansu Fati, although the player has said on multiple occasions that his preference is to stay put in Barcelona.
Though Fati himself is reportedly not very keen on leaving his training club, that might not be possible if Barcelona want to abide by the Financial Fair Play rules, which might force him out of the club.
Fati has expressed his inclination to stay to Mendes, but he could still end up joining a huge European club this summer with all of Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain having already shown interest in the young lad.
