Kylian Mbappe has begun a new chapter with Real Madrid following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, and new details about his dramatic exit have surfaced. The saga of Mbappe’s departure reveals that his decision to leave PSG involved significant behind-the-scenes drama.
Mbappe's potential move away from PSG was first seriously considered during the summer of 2022. Despite recently renewing his contract with PSG, the French forward was reportedly unhappy with the club's transfer activities and unmet promises.
His dissatisfaction led him to seek a transfer, and Liverpool emerged as a potential destination. Reports suggest that the English club made a substantial offer of €200 million for Mbappe. Additionally, a short-term agreement was supposedly in place between Liverpool and the player, which could have allowed him to eventually join Real Madrid.

However, PSG has refuted these claims. According to the Parisian club (h/t Le10Sport), Liverpool never formally submitted an offer, and the club did not believe Liverpool had the financial capability to follow through. Instead, PSG maintains that the only serious offer for Mbappe after 2022 came from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.
In the summer of 2023, Al-Hilal made headlines with a staggering bid of €300 million for Mbappe. This offer was accepted by PSG, reflecting the club's willingness to negotiate a significant deal for their star player. However, Mbappe declined the offer, choosing to remain in Europe for the time being.
In the end, Mbappe’s stint at PSG came to a close when he chose not to renew his contract and instead made the switch to Real Madrid. His seven years with PSG were filled with notable achievements and record-breaking performances. Even with the big-money offers from Liverpool and Al-Hilal, moving to Real Madrid marks a fresh start for Mbappe’s career.
