The Kylian Mbappe-PSG standoff reached a turning point on Sunday as the French forward rejoined the first-team training, marking a significant step toward a mutually beneficial resolution.

Following a tense 23 days, Mbappe is now back in the fold under the guidance of Luis Enrique. This unexpected development has sent ripples through the football world, considering the strained relationship between Mbappe and the Parisian club.

The recent developments have seen a positive shift in the atmosphere, fostering renewed efforts to align both parties in support of the athlete, which had some members of the media thinking about the Frenchman potentially signing a new contract to extend his tenure at PSG.

L'Equipe, along with journalist Vincent Duluc, sheds light on Mbappe's situation revealing that his return to training doesn't come with a commitment to forego a free departure upon his contract's expiry next summer nor any plan for a soon-to-be-signed extension.

"The prospect of an extension wasn't even on the table prior to the recent reunion between both parties," notes Duluc. Moreover, there's been no alteration in the player's stance concerning the option in his contract, with the French world champion still expected to leave PSG by June 2024.

However, this comeback signifies Mbappe's concession, with the aim of preventing PSG from facing a total loss when his contract concludes in June 2024.

That means that PSG and Mbappe might reach an extension agreement only to give PSG more room to find a potential buyer willing to pay for the Frenchman instead of him leaving for free and not returning any income to the coffers of PSG.

L'Equipe suggests that PSG might still attempt to extend their star striker's contract later in the season. This move acknowledges both the current détente and the potential for ongoing negotiations. While it is hard to see Mbappe staying in Paris for much longer, the truth is that PSG look determined to make that happen.
