The drama is over as former PSG player Xavi Simons has accepted to return to the French champions with PSV officially confirming the news on Sunday, July 16.

Simons has been one of the main targets of PSG this summer, as odd as that sounds, with the young forward linked to his former club mostly because of the presence of a buy-back clause in his deal with PSV allowing the French organization to re-acquire the player for the low figure of €6m before July 31.

PSG reportedly activated such a clause a few days ago, informing both PSV and Simons of that move. A few days later, Simons informed PSV that he is in fact interested in returning to PSG, forcing the Dutch club to accept PSG's offer as they're contractually obliged to do so.

According to Romano, Simons will return to PSG although it is not known yet if he will remain with the first team or if he will get loaned away for another year next season. The football insider wrote that the situation will "depend on the departure of any or both of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe this summer."

Romano has been informed that if both Neymar and Mbappe stay in Paris, then Simons will be loaned away with "many clubs pushing to have Xavi on loan."

French newspaper L'Equipe has quickly echoed the information leaked by Romano adding the terms of Simons' contract with PSG: a four-year deal running through the 2028 season.

PSV also made the official announcement of Simons departing the training activities of the Dutch side in order to complete his move back to PSG.

Simons, still 20 years old but with five international caps under his belt already, was under contract at PSV until the end of the 2027 season having signed his deal with the Dutch club a year ago following a brief sting in Paris.

According to information obtained by L'Equipe, "the roadmap has not yet been established" for what's next for Simons at PSG. The newspaper has revealed that "a meeting with the Parisian board will be held during the day to discuss the future."

The newspaper also confirmed the information leaked by Romano, saying that "an unknown major club is interested in getting the player on loan if Mbappe and Neymar stay at PSG."
