Dutch international midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq from PSG, the French club confirmed on Saturday. The seasoned midfielder's transfer marks a significant shift in his career as he'll play outside of Europe for the first time since he turned pro.

Wijnaldum's career started at Feyenoord, where he honed his skills for five seasons before taking his talents to PSV in 2011. His time at PSV was marked by exceptional performances until 2015, when he embarked on a new adventure in English football signing with Newcastle United.

The midfielder joined the Magpies ahead of the 2015–16 campaign before making a high-profile move to Liverpool later on. His tenure at Liverpool was nothing short of remarkable, with 237 appearances and iconic victories such as the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020.

Wijnaldum's international career with the Netherlands reached its zenith with a third-place finish at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In June 2021, the Rotterdam native took his talents to Paris Saint-Germain, contributing significantly to the club's success with 38 appearances, three goals, and three assists. His contributions helped PSG secure the Ligue 1 title in 2021-22.

Following a season at PSG, Wijnaldum was sent on loan to Italy's Serie A side AS Roma last summer, though multiple injuries hampered his time there.
